| Blu-ray means incredible full-HD images, breathtaking sound and 5x the data capacity of DVDs. Now Blu-ray means something else too: an entirely new movie-viewing experience, made possible by Final Standard Profile, which adds features never seen before, like four Picture-in-Picture modes including Enhanced Commentary (from directors and actors), Backstage Pass, Peek Behind the Animation and Audio Mixing. Images So Real, You Feel Like You're in the Picture Combining a PHL Reference Chroma Processor with advanced P4HD (Pixel Precision Progressive Processing) imaging technology, UniPhier — the Precise Digital Video processor — reproduces crisp, natural colors that are extremely faithful to the original movie. It does this by up-sampling the color information in decoded video signals, while the super high-speed P4HD up-converts content recorded in 480i/p, 720p or 1080i format to 1080p by correctly generating each pixel according to information drawn from up to 60 surrounding pixels. The image motion of each pixel is then categorized into one of 16 levels, from stationary to super fast. Image quality is further enhanced by Diagonal Processing, which creates smooth, sharp diagonal lines, and 3:2 Pull-Down, which optimizes the processing accordingly for film or video making the images look natural and lifelike. In addition, the DMP-BD30's HDMI output is Deep Color compatible, with 4,096 steps of gradation for even smoother, finer-quality images that meet Hollywood's stringent demands, so you can experience movies just the way they were meant to be experienced. Incredible Sound Completes the Hi-Def Experience With Precise Digital Audio, Blu-ray's beautiful images are complemented by exceptionally pure, accurate sound thanks to Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. UniPhier's advanced processing capability decodes these audio signals with high precision and outputs them in bitstream form with no degradation. It also brings re-mastering to Blu-ray for the first time, which compensates for data lost during the compression process creating a fuller, richer sound. HD Networking with SD Card The convenient SD card slot on the DMP-BD30 allows easy viewing of hi-def videos and photos on your HDTV. Videos shot with a Panasonic HD camcorder are output in their original 1920x1080 resolution, while still images taken with a Panasonic Lumix digital camera are up-converted and output in 1920x1080 resolution1. One-Touch Control from Your TV's Remote With EZ Sync HDAVI Control, you can control your Blu-ray Disc player — and all your home theater components — with your TV's remote2. Simply press the EZ Sync button and select "BD Player" on the menu screen; the BD player's menu will be displayed and you can begin playback. |

LOOK AT WHO GAVE IT A 1 STAR REVIEW....

| First of all Amazon needs to go back to the old format that only allowed people who actually bought the product on Amazon to review it. I bought this product on ebay and so far I love it. The quality is amazing even for regular DVD's. I love that I can plug in the SD Card from my digital camera, the quality of the 12 megapixels pictures look terrific. The two people who wrote 1 star reviews for this product DO NOT EVEN OWN IT. Look at all their reviews, they trash anything blu-ray and give anything HD DVD 5 stars... bias. Anyway, for the price this is an amazing unit. Stay away from the other ones that might be around $300 (Sony, Samsung) because they are not using the final blu-ray format that allows for picture-in-picture (1.2) or the final one 2.0. This one is using the most up to date format, altough the 2.0 format will allow for content download from the internet, I am perfectly happy with this one (Thank you to the people who corrected my mistake with the format). The best you can do go get rid of reviews that are not "real" is to report them as "not helpful" or answer no to the question of "was this review helpful?". Oh and finally don't waste $100 on a Monster HDMI cable... mycablemart dot com has great quality cables for a fraction of what other retailers sell them for. |
Best Blu-ray player for the money

| I had a Sony BDP-S1 which was generally reliable but will not pass TrueHD or DTS-MA which is a must if you want the full effect of having HD. The BD30 has excellent picture quality for blu-ray and almost as good upconverting of SD DVD as my Toshiba HD-XA2. There are numerous picture controls for adjusting to your particular taste. No issues playing any discs as has been a problem with people who own Samsung players. If you have a new receiver with HDMI 1.3 and DTS, TrueHD capability, this player will bitstream all the audio codecs (the player does not decode them internally). After listening to discs with DTS-MA I don't know if Dolby 5.1 will cut it for me anymore. The sound difference is amazing. A must have unit. Although it doesn't have ethernet capabilities it can still be updated by computer download and writing to cd. It is a simple procedure (there have already been 2 firmware updates, the latest today). People with Mac computers can do the same. |
DMP-BD30K The Player of Choice ... So So Remote

We've looked at a lot of players ... Sony S300, Samsung 1200 & 1400, and the Previous generation Panasonic. This is the one to get.
Fastest load times, and simply an awesome picture. Was comparing THE FIFTH ELEMENT between the Samsung BD-1400 & this player, and the video is much cleaner & sharper with the Panasonic.
Not so crazy about the remote. No backlight, and somewhat strange layout.
But the GOOD NEWS is, if you have an older Universal/Learning Remote, Panasonic DID NOT change their code, like ALL the other players I tried. So you can enter the Panasonic DVD code, and then customize the couple extra keys you need.
Also the Blue Light is rather bright, but it can be turned off in the menu, or set to only come on when you insert an SD card.
Overall, a fantastic machine that will not disappoint. If your on the fence about which Blu-Ray player to get, look no further. |
Panasonic BD30 is the best player on the market BAR NONE!

I paid $470 for mine (with shipping on eBay) and it was the best purchase I have made on a blu-ray player. I think the higher price reflects the quality of this player. This is, bar none, the best player on the market.
I had both the Samsung P1400 and the Sharp HP20 and the Samsung was a piece of junk. I had problems playing 1/2 of my BDs; skipping, picture going blank with audio continuing, power failures, etc. (and yes, I had the latest firmware updates installed). The Sharp HP20 I had minor issues with but the main flaw is it's limited audio ability.
This Panasonic bitstreams DolbyTrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio in 7.1 along with lossless PCM 7.1 and all the discs play flawlessly...
Yes, $500 kinda expensive, but you can't argue with the quality. The Samsung for $400 is an outright joke.
Now, if you want profile 2.0 capabilities, the Panasonic BD50 will be coming out soon. It is basically the same player but will have DTS HD MA and DolbyTrueHD decoders built into the machine (and will also bitstream them to a capable receiver) along with the Ethernet port for BDLive...
Either one you get, you cannot go wrong with the Panasonic!!! |

I purchased the Panasonic DMP-BD30K recently after Blu-ray won the HD format war. Last summer when I purchased an HD TV I initially went with the HD format with a top of the line Toshiba HD-XA2 - an excellent player. So I have some basis for comparison.
I really found myself liking the Panasonic BD30K. Updating the firmware to the 1.8 version was relatively easy and problem-free. The picture form Blu-Ray discs is excellent. Sharp and colors especially are vivid. In comparison I would say my Toshiba XA-2 is better for upconverting DVDs than the Panasonic.
I bought my BD30K through Amazon sellers for $480 so as far as I am concerned my purchase was a value. If you wait on Amazon or shop around at different sites (Circuit City, Best Buy) you may be able to find the unit at or around this price.
