I purchased this machine to replace a Samsung BD-P1200 and am quite impressed with the features and quality of its playback capabilities. I did have to update the firmware from 3.0 to 3.1, which took about 20 minutes to complete, but I am very pleased with its performance. The only thing about this machine is that it was manufactured in China and not Japan.

Has great sound, fantastic picture,very easy to hook up just 1 HDMI cord.Already had an up grade that was easy to get off of Sony's site or they will send you a cd free. It also plays all my other standard dvd's and I have over 500 dvd's I recorded myself and so far it plays them all and even upgrades them all to near HD picture. I also have a Sony bds300 on my upstairs system. I recommend these blu-ray players to every one.

You won't believe your eyes. Blu-ray is here to stay folks and this machine gives me my fix! Remember to update the firmware and learn to be patient with the slow door response and you won't be disappointed with the entertainment!

Sony BDP-S500 1080p Blu-Ray Disc Player is the best investment that I have made to support my CD/DVD collection. Using Blu-Ray DVD'S the picture feels 3D, picture is WOW. Using regular DVD'S the picture conversion is incredible.

i got this blu ray player 2 years ago with my sony card points and i must say i have no problems at all. yes it takes a little time to load but it does not bother me. i think its an awesome machine. its a little big but it does fit into my cabinet.
